The core of our Advisory Board is comprised of senior executives from the energy industry and the venture services market.  These executives are selected based on their ability to provide the maximum leverage for our investing activities.  They are chosen for their willingness to share their personal relationships and contacts, to enhance due diligence, and to increase the profitability of the portfolio companies.  Our experience has shown us that senior executive industry advisors offer the greatest leverage for our investors.

Dr. Mohammad Al-Ramadhan, Advisor: Dr. Mohammad A. Al-Ramadhan graduated from the University of Michigan, USA in August 1989 with a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds a Master's and Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from Syracuse University in the USA.

From 1991 to 1993 Dr. Al-Ramadhan was the manager of the Energy Department at Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). In 1993 he was promoted to the position of the Director of the Engineering Division at KISR.

In 1997 he joined Kuwait Petroleum Corporation as the manager of the KPC International Relations.

In 1999 Dr. Al-Ramadhan was appointed as Deputy Managing Director for the Decision-Support Group which is part of the functions reporting to the Chairman of KPC. He also served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Kuwait Oil Company during the period 1999-2002.

Since 2002 until now Dr. Al-Ramadhan holds the executive position of Deputy Managing Director for Health, Safety & Environment and Corporate Risk Management. He is also the Acting Deputy Managing Director for Research and Technology at KPC and the president of KPC Energy Ventures, Inc..

Some of Dr. Al-Ramadhan achievements include:

•  Development and implementation of the KPC Corporate HSE Management System for KPC and its subsidiaries and affiliates.

•  Development and implementation of the KPC corporate-wide Enterprise Risk Management which integrates risk management policies, practices and procedures into the decision making processes of KPC.

•  Development of the Long-Term Technology and R&D Strategy to KPC and its Subsidiaries.

•  Development and implementation of the KPC investment program in new energy technologies.

Dr. Al-Ramadhan has published many scientific papers in the areas of energy technologies, alternative energy resources and the environment.

Bernard David, Advisor: A successful technology entrepreneur, Bernard has founded, built and and sold several businesses. Amonst these companies, he co-founded SaveSmart, Inc. (Prio, Inc.) which was sold to Infospace and founded officesupplies.com which was sold to Office Depot. Recently, he's been a private investor, aligning his interests in sustainability with his investment approach.

Bernard currently sits on the board of ReProduct, Inc. and Tangent Energy Solutions. He is a Fellow at The Wharton School’s Initiative on Global Environmental Leadership. Bernard is also the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of ErthNxt, Inc.; a Trustee of The H. John Heinz III Center for Science, Economics and the Environment; and, a Member of the National Forum for Children and Nature.

Bernard earned a Bachelors in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BS in Finance and an MBA in Marketing from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Michael B.C. Davies, Advisor: Mr. Davies is the Principal of Davies & Co., an M&A advisory and investment banking firm.  In addition, he currently serves as a director to Keyera Facilities Income Fund, Echoex Limited, the Cadent Energy Fund and a number of charities and foundations.

Mr. Davies is a founder and former Managing Director of RBC Capital Market's M&A group (RBCCM).  Prior to RBCCM, he was a Principal with Morgan Stanley in the Oil and Gas group and Chief Financial Officer of the Polar Gas Project, a natural gas pipeline project to deliver Arctic gas to eastern Canadian and U.S. markets.  Earlier in his career, he held an investment banking position with McLeod, Young, Weir, a predecessor firm of Scotia Capital Markets and commercial banking positions with Citibank and The Mercantile Bank of Canada.

Mr. Davies received a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia. He is also a member of the Canadian Association of Chartered Business Valuators and was a past member of the The Law Society of British Columbia and Canadian Bar.

Dr. Jim de Wilde, Advisor: Dr. de Wilde is the President of JdW Strategic Ventures. He is a career educator and venture capitalist, focused on the issues of global competitiveness and the commercialization of knowledge through activities in both the private and public sector.

Dr. de Wilde currently serves on the Investment Committee of MSBi (Montreal) and the advisory boards of Fusion Capital and the Walsingham Fund (Toronto).  He is formerly a member of RBC Capital Markets Technology Fund Advisory Board. He was on the faculty of the University of Western Ontario School of Business (now Ivey) and the Faculty of Management at McGill University, where he is now a Dobson Fellow in the Centre for Entrepreneurship.  He has also taught venture capital strategies at the Rotman School of Business at the University of Toronto and at the Helsinki School of Economics and has lectured at the London Business School.

Dr. de Wilde received a PhD in Political Science from McGill with a dissertation focusing on the Canadian public policy process and competitiveness in technology sectors.

The Honorable Chas W. Freeman, Jr., Advisor: Ambassador Freeman was Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs from 1993-94, earning the highest public service awards of the Department of Defense for his roles in designing a NATO-centered post-Cold War European security system and in reestablishing defense and military relations with China. He served as U. S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia (during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm). He was Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs during the historic U.S. mediation of Namibian independence from South Africa and Cuban troop withdrawal from Angola.

Chas Freeman served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d'Affaires in the American embassies at both Bangkok (1984-1986) and Beijing (1981-1984). He was Director for Chinese Affairs at the U.S. Department of State from 1979-1981. He was the principal American interpreter during the late President Nixon's path-breaking visit to China in 1972. In addition to his Middle Eastern, African, East Asian and European diplomatic experience, he served in India.

Ambassador Freeman earned a certificate in Latin American studies from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, certificates in both the national and Taiwan dialects of Chinese from the former Foreign Service Institute field school in Taiwan, a BA magna cum laude from Yale University and a JD from the Harvard Law School. He is the recipient of numerous high honors and awards.

He is the author of The Diplomat's Dictionary (Revised Edition) and Arts of Power (both published by the United States Institute of Peace) and a sought-after speaker on a wide variety of foreign policy issues. Ambassador Freeman is Chairman of the Board of Projects International, Inc., a Washington-based business development firm that specializes in arranging international joint ventures, acquisitions, and other business operations for its American and foreign clients. For the past decade and more, he served concurrently as co-chair of the United States China Policy Foundation, president of the Middle East Policy Council, and vice chair of the Atlantic Council of the United States.

Wayne Greenberg, Advisor: Mr. Greenberg is a serial entrepreneur with over 10 years focused in energy and clean technology. Most recently he was the Chief Executive Officer of WellDog, Incorporated, an EnerTech II portfolio company engaged in the production and delivery of data to enhance the profitability of coal bed methane extraction. He has been an advisor to EnerTech since 1998 and has served in a variety of roles including directorships and interim management for several EnerTech portfolio companies.

Mr. Greenberg is the former president of Financial Times Energy, a division of the Financial Times Group of London and a national publishing, consulting and research firm specializing in energy markets and utility industry deregulation. He led the sale of the company to Platts in 2001. Prior to FT Energy, Wayne was president of E Source, a start-up information firm serving the energy marketplace. By the end of his first full year at the company, E Source was listed on Inc Magazine’s “Inc 500” list of fastest growing companies in America. Wayne also served as president of Shepard’s, the $100 million legal publishing arm of the McGraw-Hill Companies and led the sale of both companies. He previously spent five years and held various management positions at LEXIS/NEXIS, the world’s largest provider of on-line professional information.

Mr. Greenberg received a Bachelors in Public Communications from Boston University and Juris Doctor and Masters of Business Administration from Tulane University, where he also served as Associate Dean at the law school.

Michael Harris, Advisor: With over twenty-five years of dedication to public service, Mr. Harris is one of a growing number of business specialists at Goodmans. His knowledge of government and business in combination with a strong network of national and international contacts will provide our clients with senior level advice on business strategy.

Dr. Bill Madia, Advisor: Dr. Madia is currently VP at Stanford University responsible for oversight of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Dr. Madia retired from Battelle in 2007 after a 33-year career. His last position at Battelle was Executive Vice President for Mergers and Acquisitions. Prior to that, he was responsible for Battelle’s $4 Billion, 15,000 person Laboratory Operations business, including the management or co-management of six Department of Energy national labs: Pacific Northwest, Brookhaven, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Idaho National Laboratory and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories. In this role, he managed more than $900 million of energy research and development in such areas as clean coal technology, renewable energy and energy efficient technologies, next generation nuclear reactor development, and improved energy transmission. This portfolio also included major programs focused on global climate change and carbon sequestration. Previously, Dr. Madia served as Director of the Oak Ridge and Pacific Northwest National Laboratories. Dr. Madia has also managed Battelle’s global environmental business and served as president of Battelle Technology International. Throughout his career, Dr. Madia has successfully focused on commercializing a vast array of energy and power technologies.

Dr. Madia has received the Secretary of Energy's Gold Award, the Energy Department's highest honorary award; the DOE Distinguished Associate Award; he was nominated for the National Medal of Technology; and named “Laboratory Director of the Year” in 1999 by the Federal Laboratory Consortium.

Dr. Madia received a Bachelors and Masters in Chemistry from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in Chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

J. Scott Magrane, Advisor: Mr. Magrane is a Managing Director with Coady Diemar Partners (“CDP”). Prior to founding CDP, he spent more than 26 years advising power related enterprises including utilities, independent power companies, rural electric cooperatives, governments and energy technology companies.  That time includes 15 years with Goldman Sachs & Co. where his responsibilities encompassed all manner of corporate finance and strategic advisory activities and the creation of the firm's Energy Technology effort. Scott spent 10 years with Blyth, Eastman Dillon & Co. and Paine Webber where he specialized in energy and power project finance.

Mr. Magrane received a Bachelors from the College of Wooster and an Master's of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania .

Dan M. Martin, Advisor: Dr. Martin is a widely experienced international grant-maker, educator, and consultant to private foundations. He has designed and managed major programs dealing with environmental and natural resources management problems for several large donor agencies, including the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, and the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund. The MacArthur Foundation was an early force in stimulating the emergence of sustainable forestry as an industry sector and made grants to educate Americans about the challenges of climate change.

A native of Iowa, Martin was educated at Knox College, earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in international politics and political theory at Princeton University, and served as an Intelligence officer in the United States Army. He has taught at Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Rush University Medical School and the University of Wisconsin, and was president of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest. He has been active in many political campaigns and was a full-time volunteer in the Obama for America campaign, serving as a convener on its Energy and Environment issues team.

He is currently a member of the Committee for Research and Exploration of the National Geographic Society, the Board of Founders of the Costa Rica-USA Foundation, the Board of Trustees of the Phelps Stokes Fund, the Washington Environmental Film Festival, and the Advisory Council of the Princeton Environmental Institute. He previously served as a Vice President and member of the governing Council of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, based in Switzerland, the Board of Governors of the International Development Research Centre in Canada, the Illinois Board of Regents, the Illinois Board of Higher Education and many other public, non-profit, and foundation boards and advisory committees in the United States and elsewhere.

Donald P. McConnell, Advisor: Mr. McConnell serves as President of Battelle Energy Technology and a Battelle Corporate Senior Vice President and with responsibility for Battelle's energy business worldwide. He oversees the development of Battelle's five principle lines of energy business, focusing on near-zero emission hydrocarbon conversion, carbon management solutions, alternative energy, energy infrastructure and nuclear fuel cycle solutions. These businesses provide integrated commercial services and products to industry, while collaborating with the National Laboratories which Battelle operates to realize innovation from discoveries in energy science and technology. Collectively, the overall energy research and development effort under Battelle's management in 2006 encompassed $916 million for government and industry.

Mr. McConnell currently serves as a member of the Battelle Executive Committee and the International Board of Battelle. He participates on the Advisory Board to Battelle Ventures and is past chairman of the board of Battelle's Scientific Advances Venture fund. He also serves as a member of the board of governors and/or the energy review committee for each of the five of the national labs managed by Battelle manages for the Department of Energy: Pacific Northwest, Oak Ridge, Brookhaven, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Idaho National Laboratory. Overall laboratory operations comprise over $2.8 billion in annual research volume and some 21, 000 staff.

David Milenthal, Advisor: David Milenthal is the CEO of The Milenthal Group, a unique new marketing firm dedicated to helping new energy start-ups and early stage growth firms develop a mainstream marketing profile. Mr. Milenthal began his career as a Midwest public affairs consultant in the late 1970's creating ballot campaigns for candidates, business and labor concerns in 10 states. Building on that initial visibility, Mr. Milenthal converted the strategic communication experience that comes from public affairs into the building of Ohio's largest commercial advertising/PR/interactive agency, now called Engauge, which he sold to a NY consortium in 2007. For over 30 years, Mr. Milenthal served as agency of record for Ohio investor owned utility companies, working with the Ohio Electric Utility Institute, American Electric Power, First Energy and Cinergy (now a part of Duke). He became a lecturer on public policy messaging affecting the electric industry. This past year Mr. Milenthal joined with new energy and environmental groups to help promote and pass Ohio's unique new advanced energy mandate law which includes short and long term benchmarks for utility purchase of renewable energy expressly produced through Ohio-based manufacturers and generators. Mr. Milenthal's devotion to communicating transformative public policy does not stop with energy. In 1996, he was picked by national industry bible, Advertising Age, as one of the top ten national People to Watch for spearheading a campaign to galvanize the ad industry around reforms in advertising cigarettes to children.

Alex O'Cinneide, Advisor: Mr. O'Cinneide was appointed in Jan 07 to manage the Masdar Clean Tech Fund (ADFEC) and to represent the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company to the partnership. Previous to joining Masdar he was a Managing Partner in Quorum European Partners. He started his career in two VC backed technology companies before going on to join KPMG where he was a director in the Strategy and Private Equity Advisory group (London & New York ).

Mr. O'Cinneide received a Bachelors and a Masters from Trinity College Dublin, an Master of Science from the London School of Economics and a Master's in Finance from the London Business School .

Governor George Pataki, Advisor: Governor George E. Pataki joined the law firm Chadbourne and Parke, LLP in 2007 as Counsel, focusing on their environmental, energy and infrastructure practice areas. The Governor also is the founder and Chairman of Pataki-Cahill Group, a consulting firm concentrating on climate change, energy and the environment.  He served three terms as the 53rd governor of New York State, from 1995 through 2006.  Widely known for his protection of over one million acres of open space, Governor Pataki balances his pro-business philosophy with award-winning, cutting-edge policies in the renewable energy and environmental fields.

Governor Pataki is a graduate of Yale University and received his J.D. from Columbia Law School.

Clark Phippen, Advisor: Clark has nearly 40 years of experience in the energy, chemical and utility industries, most recently as the Director of Business Development for Conectiv, now a part of Pepco Holdings. Prior to that, Clark was the Director of Investor Affairs and Director of Business Development for the DuPont Company. Before joining DuPont, he held executive positions in refining, marketing and marine operations in the U.S. and Europe with two international petroleum companies, Mobil and Conoco. Clark serves on the Delaware Public Employees Retirement System (DEPERS) Investment Committee and on the Business Advisory Board of AMT Ventures.

Clark received a BS degree from Trinity College and an MBA degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.

Jean-Paul Reich, Advisor: After his engineering studies, Mr. Reich graduated from the “Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Métiers”, joined the Gaz de France group in 1982. He held several positions in the fields of distribution and transmission of natural gas, and then moved into Sales & Marketing in the sectors of metallurgy and materials. From 1998, he took over the development of the first large power plants to be built by the group (DK6, an 800 MW power plant in Dunkirk, which started up in 2005; and CyCoFos, a 520 MW power plant in Fos-sur-Mer, construction of which began in 2007 and which will start up at the end of 2008). These two power plants use both natural gas and steel gases from ArcelorMittal steel plants. Mr. Reich joined the Steering Committee of Gaz de France (now GDF SUEZ) Research Division in September 2007. His role is to develop the group’s activities in the fields of capture, transportation and storage of CO2 and to develop new concepts for electricity production. He is also in charge of managing GDF SUEZ’s Investment Capital operations in the area of CleanTech start-ups.

Laurence Rose, Advisor: Mr. Rose is a Senior Managing Director at Cantor Fitzgerald in New York , whose responsibilities include executive oversight of a number of business units, joint ventures, and investments.

Prior to joining Cantor Fitzgerald, Mr. Rose was founder and CEO of CollectiveBid Systems Inc. and its wholly-owned investment dealer subsidiary, CBID Markets Inc., which launched Canada 's first Alternative Trading System. With 15 years experience in the investment and technology sectors, Mr. Rose has been an innovator in the electronic fixed income trading industry. His professional experience includes positions with RBC Dominion Securities Inc., Dow Jones Markets Inc. and Bridge Information Systems.

Mr. Rose has served on various financial services industry regulatory advisory committees including the Ontario Securities Commission's Bond Market Transparency Committee. He has a Bachelors in Economics from Concordia University.

Rob Soni, Advisor: .Rob Soni is a Special Limited Partner at Matrix Partners, a Director at several private and public companies, and Chairman of ZippSlip.  Before joining Matrix Rob was Managing General Partner at Bessemer Venture Partners where he led the firm’s investments in Powertel (sold to Voicestream for $8.7B), Sirocco (sold to Sycamore for $2.7B), Bladelogic (NASDAQ:BLOG before being bought by BMC for ~$900M), and Broadsoft (NASDAQ:BSFT), among others.  Prior to BVP  Rob was an Associate in the Boston office of the Boston Consulting Group where he worked with industrial, technology, and health care clients.  Rob is a past member of the Executive Committee of the National Venture Capital Association, the Global Semiconductor Alliance, and several charity, educational, and foundation boards.  Over the course of his career Rob has produced aggregate transaction value of over $19B, with his most recent exit being the ~$370m purchase of Icera by nVidia in the summer of 2011.  

Rob is also an active private investor in over 15 private companies and advises several venture firms. Rob is an honors graduate of Harvard College and a Rotary Scholar.  Rob enjoys tennis and squash and lives in Boston with his wife two children.

Robin Wiessmann, Advisor: Ms. Wiessman helps our portfolio companies with introductions and access to the commerical banking and project finance markets. She is a veteran of public finance and investment banking, recently a term as State Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Earlier in her career, Ms. Wiessman was the founding Principal and President of Artemis Capital Group, a Managing Director of RBC Dain Rauscher, a Director at Merrill Lynch and the Deputy Director of Finance and Deputy Managing Director of the City of Philadelphia. Ms. Wiessman began her investment banking career at Goldman Sachs. She currently serves as a Director of the ICMARC Vantagepoint Funds and a Commissioner on the Delaware River Port Authority. Previously, Ms. Wiessman served as the Vice-Chairperson of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, Trustee of the Citizen's Budget Commission of New York, and was a Rockefeller Fellow.

Ms. Wiessman received her JD from Rutgers University and graduated with a BA from Lafayette College.
